Set up a mixed school
Run course blocks and open classes side by side, and keep the two ways of paying clear to dancers.
For owners
Outcome: course blocks and open classes on one schedule, each paid for the right way, and nothing that suggests one pays for the other.
Who: the owner, on the web.
Studio Voorbeeld is a mixed school: ten-week Salsa and Bachata blocks, plus a weekly Salsa practice and Sunday Salsa Open on credits, a paid workshop and a free Friday social.
Steps#
- Answer Both to "How do people dance with you?". See Choose your setup.
- Set up your courses: follow Set up a course school, steps 2 to 8.
- Add your open classes: follow Set up an open-class school, steps 3 and 4.
- Go live.
Keep the two apart#
These are the points mixed schools most often get wrong:
- A course has its own price. Credit plans never pay for a course, and Unlimited means unlimited open classes, not free courses.
- Owning a course seat doesn't make open classes free. A course dancer books open classes like anyone else, with credits or by paying.
- Catch-ups can use your open classes. With What counts as a catch-up set to include open classes, a course dancer's missed week can be made up in an open class of the same level, free. That's the one link between the two. See G05.
- Fill-in eligibility can mean either. Dancers who pay you includes both plan holders and course seat holders. See Fill-in rules.
- Plans are monthly and don't renew. A course is paid once for the block. Say so in your About text if your dancers are used to subscriptions.
Check it worked#
- The public page shows a Courses tab and your open classes, each with the right price: a block price, credits, a price per class, or free.
- A test dancer with a course seat is still asked to pay or spend credits for an open class.
