Buildings and rooms
Addresses, directions, opening hours and first-evening notes per building, plus the rooms your classes are taught in.
For owners and managers
A building is an address where you teach. A room is a space inside it. Every course and open class picks a building and then a room, and dancers see which building a class is in.
Where: sidebar → School → Where dancers turn up. Choose a building, or + Add a building.
Who: owners and managers.
How saving works#
- The address, arrival details and first-evening notes save together with Save (or Add building for a new one), at the top or bottom of the page.
- Rooms save one at a time, as soon as you leave a room's name or capacity field. They aren't part of the page's Save.
- Make this the main building takes effect straight away. Remove building and a room's × ask first, and say how many past dates were held there. A building or room that classes still use is refused straight away, without a question.
If you leave with unsaved address changes, the app warns you first. Room edits are already saved by then.
The address#
| Field | Limit | What it's for |
|---|---|---|
| Building name | 80 characters, required | Shown on every class taught here, so dancers know which of your buildings tonight's class is in. |
| City | The building's own city. It can differ from your school's city. | |
| Street and number | The address dancers navigate to. | |
| Postcode | ||
| Floor or entrance | The last few metres: "Blue door beside the bakery, first floor". |
Show this address publicly#
On by default. When it's on, the street is on your public page and in the app.
When it's off, the street is taken off your public page only. Everyone who dances at your school still sees the full address, and Getting here is shown either way. Use this when a studio shares a door with a private home. The building gets an address hidden badge on the School page.
Getting in#
Both fields are optional, 300 characters each.
- Getting here: public transport, parking, bike racks.
- Opening hours: when the building is open. This is information for dancers only. It doesn't limit when you can schedule classes or when dancers can book.
A first evening here#
A short timeline of what a newcomer can expect, such as:
| Moment | Text |
|---|---|
| −15m | Come up the stairs and say hello at the desk. |
| 0m | Class starts. You rotate partners every few minutes. |
| +75m | Practica, or the bar next door. |
Each moment has a short marker (up to 8 characters) and a line of text (up to 300). You can have up to six moments. Use + Add a moment to add one and × to remove one. Empty moments don't appear.
Rooms here#
Every class needs a room. A new building opens with one room called Room 1. Rename it, add more, or remove it.
- Name: up to 60 characters. Name rooms the way your teachers do. Two buildings can both have a "Room 1"; they're different rooms.
- Capacity (the holds field): optional. It records how many people the room holds. If you create a room from inside the course editor while the course's capacity is still empty, the course takes the room's number as a starting point. Changing a room's capacity doesn't change the capacity of classes that already exist.
- + Add a room adds "Room 2", "Room 3" and so on, ready to rename.
- × removes a room, after asking. You can't remove a room a draft or published course or open class uses, or that a date still to come is in: the app names the room and asks you to move those classes first. Past dates and ended classes don't hold a room. They keep their registers and bookings, and stop naming the room.
The class editor warns you when two classes are in the same room at the same time.
Main building#
One building is your main building. Your public page leads with it, and a new class starts out in it. To change it, open another building and choose Make this the main building.
This only changes which building is the main one. It doesn't save any unsaved address edits on the page, so choose Save for those.
Removing a building#
Remove building only appears when you have more than one building and this one isn't the main building. It's refused when a draft or published course or open class is set to this building, or a date still to come is taught there. The app asks you to move those classes first.
A building whose classes have all ended can be removed. The app asks first and says how many past dates were held there: they keep their registers and bookings, and stop saying where they were. Its rooms go with it.
