Go live and payouts

The checklist between a draft school and a public one, connecting Stripe so dancers' money reaches you, what each payout status means, and publishing the school.

For owners and managers

Until you publish it, your school is a draft. Your team can build everything, including publishing courses and classes onto your schedule, but no dancer can find you, your join code doesn't work, and nothing can be booked. Go live is where you finish: a short checklist, connecting payouts, and the button that opens your doors.

Where: sidebar → Go live. While something still blocks going live, Go live takes the place of Tonight at the top of the sidebar, and a banner on every page reminds you.
Who: owners and managers can see it and work through the checklist. Only the owner connects payouts and publishes the school.

The checklist#

Some items block going live and some don't. The top of the page counts what's left, for example "3 things left before dancers can find you. Do them in any order."

ItemBlocks going live?Done when
Your name, city and stylesYesYou've picked at least one style you teach.

Where you teachYesYour main building has an address.
Create your first classYesAt least one course or open class is published.
What happens when somebody cancelsYesYou've reviewed Cancellations and chosen These suit us, or saved that page.
Your fill-in rules / Fill-ins are offYes, unless you said you don't want themYou've reviewed Fill-in rules and confirmed.
Your catch-up rules / Catch-ups are offYes, if you run courses and didn't say noYou've reviewed Catch-ups and confirmed.
Your teachersYesYou've invited someone or someone else is on your team, or you chose It is just me.
What dancers read about youNoAbout and What to wear are filled in, or you chose That is enough for now.
PayoutsYesStripe can take payments for you.

Items like fill-ins and catch-ups ask for a confirmation rather than a fact, because the defaults may already be right. The point is that somebody at your school has looked at them.

Saving the related settings page counts as confirming it too.

If you told the setup questions you don't want fill-ins or catch-ups, those items don't appear.

Payouts#

Dancers pay your school directly. Dansly uses Stripe: you get a Stripe account in your own name, and money from dancers lands in it. Stripe does the identity check and holds your bank details; Dansly never sees your account number.

Choose Set up payouts with Stripe. You leave Dansly, answer Stripe's questions, and come back. The card then shows one of these statuses:

StatusWhat it meansWhat to do
(not set up)No Stripe account yet.Set up payouts with Stripe.
UnfinishedStripe needs a few more things from you. The card lists them.Finish on Stripe.
CheckingStripe is reading what you sent. This can take a day rather than a minute.Nothing. You'll get an email when it's done.
PendingStripe has everything and is finishing its checks. Usually a moment.Check again shortly.
Almost onCard payments work already; Stripe is still switching the rest on, such as iDEAL. Until then dancers can only pay by card.Nothing. It usually resolves on its own.
Ready"Payouts are on." Shows the last four digits of the account you're paid out to.Manage on Stripe to change bank details.

Check again asks Stripe for the latest status straight away. You don't have to wait on the page: the owner gets an email when Stripe finishes, and also if Stripe later stops being able to take payments, for example because it needs something new from you. Until that's fixed, nobody can pay for a class.

The payouts item on the checklist is done once Stripe can take payments. That can be before every payment method is switched on (Almost on).

Publish the school#

Once nothing blocking is left, the owner chooses Go live ("You are live. Your join code works from now on."). Your public page opens, your join code works, and every class you've already published becomes visible and bookable.

Publishing a single course or open class is not the same as going live. A class published inside a draft school is on your schedule, but no dancer can see it yet.

Once live, the page shows You are live, your join code, and your plan. The checklist doesn't come back.

Your plan#

The Go live page also shows your Dansly plan: free until your first dancer pays, then a first invoice 30 days later. Paying Dansly is separate from dancers paying you. See Billing.
